Get the Locate Job Done!

So what do you do when the utility locate company you hired doesn’t show up because of a little rain…? Why... you could start off by hiring the one that ALWAYS shows up!

Utility Survey Corp. was recently on a job at a prominent GE facility. There was rain in the morning that gradually faded to broken sunshine. When our work was almost completed for the day, our client approached us and asked if we could talk to another contractor on the site who also had a need for utilities to be marked out.

As it turned out, we weren’t the only utility locate company scheduled to be on site that day. The other contractor was also expecting a locate company to work for him only for them to cancel due to the rain. This obviously created a problem as he would be unable to complete his work on time. But, fortunately, he was able to hire us on the spot to help him out.

So what’s the big deal?! I mean, c’mon, weather happens…, you just reschedule for tomorrow, right? Well, maybe not so easily. If the locator can come back tomorrow, that’s fine, but what if the client can’t make it back the next day? That’s a problem, right?

What if the excavator that was scheduled to come the day after couldn’t come due to other prior commitments either - and all this starts to push the job back a week? Add to this the time constraints built into the contract and suddenly things get difficult fast.

So is there a solution? Yes there is.

You hire a reliable company with a clearly defined weather policy written into the proposal.

Utility Survey Corp’s policy is that despite whatever the weather forecast does or does not predict (and we all know about weather forecasts - right?) our technician will be setting out for the job site that day regardless.

tenneyphoto523-41.jpgWe know our clients are depending on us and their window of opportunity for completing their work maybe be limited - to just that one day in many cases. So, the client needs to know we will absolutely be there.

When weather is a potential issue, it is our technicians who will decide if the job can be accomplished or not. If there is a chance that marker paint will wash away, or if the equipment will not function or will be damaged by heavy rain for example, then the technician will make the call as to whether the locating can be carried out to the high standards critical to our line of work.

Rest assured, it takes a lot to stop us - and it rarely happens.

We are Utility Survey Corp. and we get the job done!
